5+5 Thermal Break Folding Doors – Building Innovation Hub (Google Building), Dubai Internet City

Project Overview

Located in the heart of Dubai Internet City, the Building Innovation Hub (Google Building) is a landmark commercial development where architecture and technology meet. Makfold was appointed by Nizam Al Khaas Technical Services LLC to design, supply and install high-performance folding door systems that open the ground-floor spaces to the outdoors while maintaining the building's strict thermal and acoustic standards. The scope covered three 11.5-metre-wide openings on the ground floor – BLG1-GF-R03, BLG2-GF-A-R05 and BLG2-GF-B-R01 – each fitted with a heavy-duty 5+5 thermal break folding door. The ten-panel configuration stacks neatly to either side, creating a completely unobstructed opening across the full width when required, and closing into a tight, weather-sealed façade when not in use. The thermal break aluminium profiles are engineered to withstand Dubai's demanding climate, reducing heat transfer, improving energy efficiency and keeping the interiors comfortable year-round. Heavy-duty rollers and hardware ensure smooth, effortless operation despite the size and weight of the double-glazed panels, while slim sightlines preserve the clean, contemporary look of the building. Every unit was fabricated to precise site measurements and installed by Makfold's in-house team to a tight programme, coordinated closely with the main contractor to meet the project's handover schedule. The result is a seamless indoor-outdoor experience that reflects the innovative spirit of the Google Building and Makfold's commitment to quality, precision and performance.
